Village Employee Food Drive Challenge

Village of Sebring employees recently went head-to-head in a food drive challenge to help support local community blessing boxes.

“There is great need in our community for basic items, and we wanted to come together and help support as a whole team,” Sebring Councilwoman Samantha Phillips said.

All village departments were involved in the competition.

“I figured why not have a friendly competition at the same time to foster comradery,” Phillips added.

Various village departments participated and were able to collect more than 1,200 items for the numerous blessing boxes around the village. Donations included non-perishable food items of all kinds.

“We are happy to announce the Wastewater Treatment Plant as the top winner,” Village Manager Tim Gabrelcik said. “We encouraged all departments to participate, no matter the size, as we averaged out the total number of items per employee in each department.”

Blessing boxes are located behind Village Hall at 135 E. Ohio Ave.; Dean’s Funeral Home at 256 W. Ohio Ave.; and Almost Home Event Center at 230 S. 12th St.

The blessing boxes are available to anyone and include food and personal hygiene items.

Donations can be dropped off at the boxes, or Tonya Dean of Harvesting HOPE can be reached at 330-428-4873.
